Important Tax Dates

General Tax Due Dates:

Note: Dates shown are the DUE dates, be sure to have payment or

appointment arrangements setup prior to the due date.

January 15th

4th Quarter Estimated Installment: Make a payment of your estimated tax for the prior year if you didn't pay your income tax for the year through withholding. This is the final installment date for the prior year estimated tax payments.

January 31st

Payers of non-employee compensation: File form 1099NEC for nonemployee compensation paid in the prior year.

All Businesses: Give annual information statements to recipients of certain payments you made during the prior year. You can use form 1099, which can be issued electronically with the consent of the recipient. Payments that may be covered include the following:

  • Compensations for workers who aren't considered employees.

  • Interest

  • Rent

  • Royalties

  • Profit-sharing distributions

  • Prizes & awards

  • Cash payments over $10,000

March 15th

S Corporation Election: File form 2553 to elect to be treated as an S Corporation beginning with the current calendar year. If form 2553 is filed late, S Corporation treatment will begin with the next calendar year.

Partnerships (1065) & S Corporations (1120-S): File the prior year tax return and pay any tax due. Provide each partner/shareholder with a copy of their Schedule K-1.

To request a 6-month extension of time to file your tax return, file form 7004.

If you owe any money and want to avoid the hefty late paying penalty and interest, submit form 7004 with an estimated amount of what you owe.

April 15th

Tax Day

Individuals (1040): File a 1040 tax return or 1040-SR (for seniors) for the prior year and pay any tax due. To request a 6-month extension of the time to file the tax return, file form 4868.

If you owe any money and want to avoid the hefty late paying penalty and interest, submit form 4868 with an estimated amount of what you owe.

Household Employers: If you paid cash wages of $2,700 or more in the prior year to a household employee, you must file Schedule H with you 1040 tax return.

Corporations (1120): File the prior year 1120 tax return and pay any tax due. To request a 6-month extension of time to file your tax return, file form 7004.

If you owe any money and want to avoid the hefty late paying penalty and interest, submit form 7004 with an estimated amount of what you owe.

1st Quarter Estimated Installment: Make a payment of your estimated tax for the current year if you don't pay your income tax for the year through withholding. This is the first installment for your current year estimated tax.

May 15th

Business Owners: File your Franchise Tax Report for the prior year with the state of Texas, along with any tax due.

June 15th

2nd Quarter Estimated Installment: Make a payment of your estimated tax for the current year if you don't pay your income tax for the year through withholding. This is the second installment for your current year estimated tax.

September 15th

3rd Quarter Estimated Installment: Make a payment of your estimated tax for the current year if you don't pay your income tax for the year through withholding. This is the third installment for your current year estimated tax.

October 15th
